    The scientific name is Gloriosa Rothschildiana.

    Very festive, they look larger than I thought they were from catalogues. Just the right thing for Cinco De Mayo.

    Bamboo. I have quite a few species in the yard. As a matter of fact, after the drought it is mostly bamboo in my yard. Hard to pin in down to one species.

    Maybe Japanese roof Irises and Bonsai.

    Red Yucca, which isn't a Yucca at all. It is Hesperaloe parviflora

    I like hummingbirds and pollinators (bees, wasps, butterflies, moths) so plants that attract them are always my favorites.
    Here is another great plant for attracting pollinators. It is Salvia clevelandii. Most Salvias are great.

    I agree with you , getting as many good 'bugs' into the garden is very important. The Hesperaloe parvifolia suprisingly is hardy here in the mountains if situated right. I had one that lived in a pot much too long and did not make it when I finally put it in the ground. A new one is coming soon as I love it. The first I saw it here in the mountains I was trying out a short cut to somewhere and there it was next to someones driveway, boy did the brakes go on.
    Salvias have always been special for me and frequently I take cottings and over winter them in my greenhouse, they are quite hardy just down off the mountains in South Carolina.

    With only one exception all of my plants are clumping species. One exception is a hedge of Semiarundinaria fastuosa, known as "Temple Bamboo', that I have fought with for 30+ years.

    Passion flowers are also very nice but the plants parcha.jpg take a lot of space

    I have always appreciated the cryptic phylogeny of Welwitschia mirabilis. I've a small collection of them.

    The seedpods are very cool but the plants are just a little too creepy for me...

    I had to look this one up. It is a fascinating plant. I am going to do some more reading and see if there are similar species in the fossil record.

    Are you growing yours from seed? Sounds like they are easy to germinate but can easily succumb to damping off. What was your source?
