Eurychone galeandrae x Aerangis modests

    This plant just bloomed today and I am thrilled. No idea who made the cross or of any more even exist. When I bought it, this was the only plant, tucked away with a bunch of straight up aerangis. (Anyone else have one? I'd love to compare flowers.) I love that the Eurychone gave it some color. There are actually 2 spikes, so it should be gorgeous in a couple of days, but I couldn't wait to take a photo. So, without moving the plant, these are the best I could get.

    Sarah, this is really nice! I'm not even sure Eurychone galeandrae is around in cultivation anymore to remake this really cool hybrid.

    That is beautiful, Reyna! I love the icy orange color that the galeandrae brings to the cross.

    In 2008, Hoosier was selling the Euryangis Galeankotch, and Eric Michel sold the Eurychone Virginie Moulin (galeandrae x roth) the following year -- still waiting for the latter to bloom. Good chance yours came out of Hoosier too but in checking the Ang lots from their liquidation, I don't see a cross with modesta on the list. You just may have the only one. Congratulations!

    To add, Hoosier was also selling a few (Eury galeandrae x Aerangis distincta) NBS seedlings back in 2008 as well.

    I knew there were a few other Euryangis floating around out there, but not many. I guess this is one of those plants to give extra TLC as it maybe one of the very few. :) I will post photos once all dozen flowers have opened--should be quite a show.

    Love to see your plant in full bloom, Reyna.
    There were two Euryangis hybrids (with galeandrae) on the Hoosier list, one with distincta, and one with kotschyana. I have had the latter, Euryangis Kotschyana (ugly name) since 2008; it's been blooming each fall since 2010.

    I've got one, three or four growths and hasn't bloomed since I got it from Hoosier back when they shut their doors (2009?). Would love to put it to punctata. Eurychone is part of Aerangidinae right? and won't breed to the Angraecinae? I had a pod on my grandiflora (x roth) but a cold snap rotted it, I'm hoping to redo that and get something that resembles henrici. Aerangis breeding, so silly...
