This is my second year with this species. Last year everything blasted. I gave it more air movement this year and it is much better. Intermediate, bright indirect light.

Beautiful. One of those species I wish I had the space for. Alas, too big for a light cart. -Stephen

Hi kelly, it looks gorgeous, I love it , wish I can have one of this kind. Wouldn't you mind if I ask you where I can buy this kind of orchids? Any orchids retailer that you must know that you can recommend it to me? I'm just a neophytes being an orchids hobbyist. So far I just had 6 kinds of orchids that I grew, Phalaenopsis, dendrobium, oncidium, cymbidium, cattleya & masdevilla, but cattleya & masdevilla did'nt survived, they both vanished, ;(.. Anyway, you lived in Redding, Ca, I used to live in Marysville for 6 years but I haven't been trying to grow orcchids, I did try three times and it died and I was frustrated. Right now , I am living in Michigan a colder place to grow orchids. Thanks and I really appreciate if you can recommend me any website that are selling orchids..

Hi Marie, I buy most of my orchids via mail order off the internet. I also manage to get to 1 or 2 orchid shows per year where I tend to spend way too much. There are dozens of web sites that sell orchids. Some vendors specialize in species, some in just a few species and still others specialize in hybrids. So, it really depends on what you want to grow. If you are still experimenting with what works for you in your environment you may want to stick to hybrids. Figure out what works for you, what doesn't, then continue to expand and grow with the hobby. If you are growing in a window sill situation then you need to know which direction the window faces. You can grow things in east windows that may not work in south windows, etc. If you are growing outside in the summer then you will need appropriate space and conditions for inside growing in the winter.
Check on-line and see if there is an orchid society in your area and go to some meetings. Or an orchid society show / sale may be coming to your area in the near future where you could learn a lot. And of course there are orchid forums such as this one. On this forum there is a category "Orchid Vendors FYI" that discusses pros and cons of some of the orchid vendors so check that out. Personally, I buy exclusively species and I purchase from Andy's Orchids (species only and most are mounted, so you probably aren't ready for those yet); Exotic Orchids of Maui (species and hybrids, mostly potted and reasonable prices so this could be a good source for you); also Tropical Orchid Farm (mostly species and mostly potted). There are lots of eastern and mid-western growers that are closer to you but I just am not familiar with them. Perhaps someone else on the forum will come in and offer some help. Good luck ... it's a great hobby.

Hi Kelly, Thanks a lot for all the information that you provided. It will help me in growing my orchids collection. I will check our orchids society here in Saginaw, MI. I checked Exotic Orchids of Maui, just last night but I didnt place an order coz I don't have any idea which is one is the best to grow here in Michigan, and I will check Andy's too. My orchids that I had now, I bought it in Larry's Orchids & Tropical here in Michigan, some of his orchids are extremely expensive. Again, my millions of thanks and have a marvelous day and have fun and enjoy the nice weather in California, I truly missed the weather out there. :)
