Dendrobium vexillarius has always been one of my favorite species and seems to be very vigorous in my conditions. It also has many varieties, with some being a challenge to find. So I just went to my first show in nearly two years (Massachusetts) and stumbled on a whole box of large, in bloom plants of both vexillarius as well as other PNG Dendrobium species at Ecuagenera. It was a bit of a feeding frenzy…you almost had to grab into the box without even looking or you would miss out. I just grabbed and handed to a friend standing behind me and then looked at them afterwards…it was really fun! I knew Ecuagenera had been selling flasks, but didn’t know they had a good supply of mature plants? here are a few of the treasures: var. retroflexum var retroflexum x var microblepharum var microblepharum…very compact compared to the others hybrid of vexillarius and sulphureum Also got a nice D. seranicum with darker blooms than the other clone I have and what was called a “Thin Leaved” violaceum…perhaps a var. cyperifolium?
