I got this plant as a keiki from Andy's Orchids a couple years ago and was really proud that that I have about 150 flowers on it with maybe an equal amount to follow. So when I was out to SanDiego the week before last, I showed Andy my photos and he show me a photo of his plant that just received a CCE a few days earlier with over 35,000 flowers!!! This plant doesn't seem typical of subclausum and he used to call it the "Thick Stemmed form". Now that it has a provisional award, they will need to verify. I think the clonal name he is calling it is 'Jo Jo's Firecracker' but I can't say my spelling is correct on it.

Thanks...one drawback is its going to be huge, although I hang it in pretty strong light and it's becoming nearly always in bloom with only 3-4 mature canes. Currently it has also 3-4 new growths which are growing stiffly upright. Don't know if they go pendulous with age or if it's more to do with amount of light...time should tell.

Really nice, Chuck. I didn't realize that subclausum could have such bright flowers. I always thought of them as somewhat pastel. Good to know.

Looks alot like D. chrysopterum, which also gets huge.

I think the growth habit goes with the clone or subspecies. I have some that always hang straight down and others that are space hogs.

Thanks all. Regarding color, seems to open a bit muted and color up over a week or so.
