Dendrobium stuartii

    It is counted as lucky when I have a chance to witness this dendrobium open. This season, no luck, even with that many buds. I only found one that half open. IMG_20221128_094031.jpg IMG_20221128_094118.jpg

    Are they self-pollinating?

    I think so. Most of the flowers turn into seedpods. As you can see in the first picture, some seedpods are already formed.

    Nisa. Why do you think that the buds will not open? What is the cause?

    Probably they open for a very short time, or some pollinators pollinated the flowers. I only seen an open flowers once. Even though they are very common here.

    Some clones of some species will self-pollinate before or shortly after the flowers open. Some do it occasionally and some do it all of the time. They are called cleistogamous flowers.
