Dendrobium cyanocentrum 4N and 2N

    A friend had wanted to see a comparison of a 4N (tetraploid) form of this species compared to a 2N (diploid) form. The 4N was a cross between the white and blue forms that was chemically treated to convert it to a 4N. The other is a blue x blue cross done many years ago.

    Do you have a "white x blue" plant, non treated, for comparision?
    Here all my "white x blue" plants, that haven't been treated, are much more vigorous/big than my (late) blue form plant was

    I don't think so. I lost most, if not all, of them last year. I do remember the extra vigor, but not this much. This clearly stood out from the normal blue x white outcross when I had them. The substance of the flowers is different from any of the other Den cyanocentrum I have had.

    Have you noticed the same with tetraploid subuliferum?

    I don't have any treated subuliferum. I treated a cross in 2012 or 13, but don't have any of that cross surviving. I haven't treated any since then. Next time I will try.
