Looking for a division of this species with red/dark lip. Send me PM if you have one available for trade. Thanks

I just had a good blooming from my red-yellow lip clone, now I really want one with(almost) solid red lip that I have seen on photos.

I have been growing out a bunch from one of the Taiwanese vendors at the POE this year and one was close to it. There are a few spikes coming out now, and I'll be sure to document for you if you'd like.

I also pretty much killed one of my bicolor cuthbertsonii trying to make a cuthbertsonii x bellatulum. Everything is hard with this species.

    Thanks.
I grow bellatulum warmish and moist summer, cool and dry winter, A light winter-rest is important for this species. I also grow it brighter than cuthbertsonii, especially in winter.

It's not red enough for me! I've seen pictures of crimson ones, are they photoshopped?

That is good enough for me. The two I have now have bi-color lip. How tall is your plant?

There is a hybrid, which I have, It is taller and skinny canes but the lip is redder.

Do you have Iki? I've got one and it has a fairly saturated lip. There is another one in bud now that I hope is better.

That picture isn't very good at showing that its bicolor too. The isthmus is orange.

I have Iki. If you ever decide to let one of your red lip bellatulum go, let me know.

    Here is my bellatulum:

I'm going to start a breeding program for what we want this species to be. I've got come chemically treated ones that I hope to be half decent as well.

A different clone bloomed out, I like this one best so far. There was another that had terrible pastel orange that I bloomed too. It came from a different Taiwanese vendor. These plants are ~2" tall.

I like that bicolor you have sir. The contrast in making color separation is very appreciable.

I have two clones with the same bicolor lip now. Few years ago I asked for the red lip clone from a reputable vendor but it bloomed out to be another one with bicolor lip. Very disappointing but...

Is the Moby Dick of the orchid world? I have some that are supposed to be red lip, but they haven't bloomed yet. I'm not holding my breath though, as the "bellatulum alba" bloomed out to be D unicum.

Should I get a nice one with good saturation I'll do you some justice Marni and give it a fitting clonal. 'Ishmael' maybe 'Melville' or 'Ahab'

I love this plant but no longer export it. In Thailand they loose their leaves before flowering most of the time and other countries don't seem to believe this is the cycle of the plant here. They put it down to wild collection even though this is not the case CITES have asked us and other larger species farms in Thailand to take them off our list :-( The red lip ones are from Laos mostly i don't know why they have the redder lip but they just do. 529843_420086468084196_1357983431_n.jpg

I've only seen one other picture of it and that was just the flower. It is fantastic.

Interesting! Thanks Andy, I know what information I'm going to interrogate the vendors at POE with next year.
