Dale and I were talking about this species so I thought I would post it. It is a lovely thing and easy to grow if you let it dry between waterings.

I've got C. sheehaniae, and couldn't find much info on the water requirements. Do you think it would be safe to assume this one also likes to dry between watering?

All of the Cischweinfia species that I grow seem to like to be mounted or under-potted so they dry between waterings. I don't remember which species it was, but I divided and repotted a plant that was growing way out of the pot, hanging with its roots everywhere. Almost every division died because they were staying too wet. Hard lesson learned. I grow these rather bright.

Thanks! It's definitely underpotted -- overflowing a 3" pot -- so I'll try keeping it a bit drier than I have been.

If it is overflowing the pot, what do you want to change? Does it bloom?

I received it in bud and it bloomed shortly after I got it, which was about two years ago, but since then, nothing. Vegetative growth is pretty impressive - I had no idea this plant grew so quickly - but no sign at all of any more blooms. So, I was thinking of either changing up the watering routine, or maybe giving it more light.

I'd give it more light and keep your watering the same.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try that before I adjust the watering routine.

Thanks for the great advice, Marni. I moved the plant four inches closer to the lights and cut back a bit on the water; not even two months later, and I can already count at least five spikes just starting.

    Glad to hear that.
