Cattleya skinneri

    This is one of the ancients from my mother collection that has survived till today...and she bloomed this last december and I love those buches of purple flowers ;)

    I'm not so sure that your plant is Cattleya skinneri, Horus.

    I think your plant is probably Cattleya Hail Storm (bowringiana x skinneri). It sure looks like C. Hail Storm.

    Cattleya skinneri is decidedly a spring to early summer bloomer. It's fall-blooming cousin is Cattleya patinii (aka deckeri). Cattleya bowringiana blooms in late summer to early fall. Eary to mid-winter is when Cattleya Hail Storm blooms.

    My first thought looking at the photo was that this looks more like bowringiana than skinneri, before seeing EdM's comments. Perhaps he is right. If it was once labeled skinneri x bowringiana it would be very easy for the identification to get cut short over the years. Whichever it is doesn't change its beauty, and it is clearly getting good care.

    BTW, this group of 'catts' is usually considered genus Guarianthe now.
