Cattleya schroederae is one of my favorite Cattleya species. It's native to Colombia and flowers in the spring. The feminine pink flowers have an orange throat, measure over six inches across, and have a delightful fragrance. I got this one from Fred Clarke at Sunset Valley Orchids last spring.

Really beautiful! How big is the plant? Is it practical for growing under lights?

Its a "standard" Cattleya species, but more compact than others, I think the tallest growth is about twelve inches. Cattleya schroederae is reportedly one of the easiest Cattleya species to grow.

Yes, I'd put it in the "anceps easy" category. Many Cattleya species have definate wet-dry seasons and can be intollerant of repeated mistakes. C. schroederae seems to be as easy as modern hybrids.

That's really nice, Ed. I had a dark purple clone. I miss it.

    Oxymoron.
