Cattleya nobilior v amaliae 'H & R #1' species

    Hello!! I would like some info if anyone grows this species cattleya or something similar? uploadfromtaptalk1425478280988.jpg I got this great plant for helping one of my favorite vendor's out at the Cleveland orchid mania :) I believe she was too too kind to do so and bought other plants anyways . but this little gem caught my eye. It did get bud blast. i was rather sad about that,but this a fascinating cattleya and have never saw anything like it before . the spike comes from the base and I'm guessing the new pseudobulb forms after ? uploadfromtaptalk1425478571471.jpg uploadfromtaptalk1425478938197.jpg at the bottom I see it swelling and a little root forming :) the root system is completely trapped by The two pots its placed in uploadfromtaptalk1425479622658.jpg uploadfromtaptalk1425479723354.jpg over all trying to find info on this little guy has been less then easy. I'm guessing I should repot it soon? Once I free it from the one pot .
    I am wondering what media I should use? I have been using different mixes of lava rock, leca pebbles, perlite, and coco core for my personal mix for most of my orchids. I have found for my climate and personal water schedule it suites me. I am just wondering if anyone can suggest anything :) please and thank you !!/

    Its in bark and large perlite right now

    C nobilior is like walkeriana, except where it comes from there is an absolute drought in winter. It's a lover bright light. Give it that pronounced drying out. Do the same for repotting. I would pot it go the edge of the pot. Letting it grow over the pot isn't a bad thing for this species either.

    Thank you ! I have been looking and I didn't see anything in this forums archives which made me post this. Also I have read about the pedigree of this plant not the care.. (Cant find that)I so it gets a rest which is awesome !!! I can not water it lol just have to figure out that period

    Very nice, Anna. I like this species. I have one normal and one amaliae, but I had these only for 2 years or so. So I'm still trying to figure things out. They appear to be easy growers, but I keep screwing up when the bud started to develop.

    The parent of your plant is probably from his nursery.

    Miranda orchid web site used to have great info about this group, but the information is gone now. From my memory (please correct me if I'm wrong), I think the distribution of v. Amaliae is disjunct from the normal C. nobilior, and they are located to the NE. of the normal C. nobilior (around the State of Tocantins). Here you can see the climate of the region:

    Why "liberate" it from the net pot? Just put the nobilor, as is, net pot and all, right into a larger pot and use a large bark mix. No damage and the orchid will like you that much more. It won't effect the growth at all.

    Oh yeah, cut the spokes on the bottom of the plastic pot and carefully remove the orchid from that pot.

    I just placed it in net pot and all :) to much frustrations would be made trying to set it free lol
