This is from northern Peru on the east side of the Andes. Nicely fragrant.

That's really nice, Marni. This was so recently described (1988) is it common in cultivation? I had not heard of it.

They used to be a bit more available, but aren't widely cultivated in the US. So many cattleya growers want something a bit more flamboyant. I've had it since 2005 when I bought it from a Peruvian vendor at a show here. It took a long time for me to learn how to grow it and I considered getting rid of it more than once. Now I am happy I was patient.

For a Cattleya very under stated. I like it a lot. Glad you were patient!

Stunning. I like the oddball forms with Catts. The color combination is fantastic.

Beautiful, Marni! It is not an easy species. I tried it last summer, but I failed acclimate it after the importation. Do you mind of sharing your experience and tips about how to grow this species? Several people have difficulty growing this species. Are you planning to propagate it?

Hi Naoki, welcome to the forum. When I got this it was growing on a piece of tree fern. I left it there for a couple of years and grew it on the shady side and it didn't do much. A few years ago, I put it (still on the treefern) into a plastic basket in medium bark and hung it up high in the greenhouse. So it is getting quite bright light. It is dry for a couple of days between waterings (which include approx 1/4 tsp per gallon of fertilizer). My greenhouse maintains a temperature of 56F at night at the eye level so a bit warmer up another 5 or 6 feet high.

I've been trying for over 4 years to get pollen for an outcross. It has been promised by several people, but hasn't actually happened yet.
