First time it's bloomed since I've owned it so I have no idea. I hope not, I like the tube look on this. It opened over the weekend.
What I don't understand is this; the flower on the left looks what I would call normal while the other has a little hat on the top of the lip. That one is also a lot bigger then the 'normal' one.

I like the color of yours better than the one I have. How do you find the fragrance?

    Thanks for the nice comments.

Alexis, the fragrance has me stymied. Not sure if it's what I would call nice but it's not offensive. This morning I did detect what I thought was a plastic-cucumber-y smell.

How does it smell to you?

MJ, this is a nice clone! Well bloomed.

I think they smell like vinyl.

Nice MJ! I believe the one on the right has the column outide if the lip instead of inside. Mine used to do that once in awhile too. I agree with Chris on the vinyl scent....warm vinyl.

My Catt luteola just bloomed, no hats, but the lips did stay tubular. The fragrance on mine is really nice - sort of a woody-spicy scent that smells like some commercial perfume whose name I can't recall. (When I'm at the airport and bored, I go in the duty-free shop and smell all the perfumes). Seems like the luteola fragrance varies a lot from one cultivar to another, and even varies according to the time of day, with the nice fragrance in the morning and the "vinyl" fragrance in the afternoon.

Bingo. Warmish vinyl. That is it. With a little cucumber thrown in for good measure.
And thank you, Wendy. I bet that is what it is. I don't bloom enough stuff to know all that orchidy info. :D Thanks.
And again, thanks for all of your nice comments. I like this plant. I wonder if Rob is still in business? I've not seen him anywhere for a very long time.

I don't think luteolas smell good, but I am strangely drawn to the fragrance nonetheless. Vinyl is a good description.

Neat, Mary Jane! Just lift up those thingies and put them over the top of the column. Simple. You're welcome.
