Cattleya elongata in nature

    Just got back from Brazil,on a two week orchid trip with the OCA (Orchid conservation alliance, a group of dedicated people who deserve our support!), primarily ,but not exclusively to see C,elongata in bloom in its native habitat of Chapada Diamantina.
    It grows on rocks in bright sun and in some debris that collects in the fissures.
    There are nightly fogs though even in the dry season.
    There is some variation among plants, size of plants and more importantly shape and size of flower.
    Other orchids that grow in that environment include several Pleurothallis /Anathallis sps.,Octomeria sp.,Bulbophyllum sps.,Encyclia sps.,Epidendrum sps. etc.
    Here are some pictures of that habitat and the Cattleyas.
