Cattleya aclandiae

    I got this as a small NBS 2.5 years ago, and this is its first bloom. I'm happy with it. The fragrance is delightful.

    I guess I should have cleaned up the hard-water stains on the plant, but I'm lazy.

    No, it's not mounted on a rock, but rather a broken piece of porous pottery. That probably wasn't my most brilliant idea, since the plant is already growing beyond the edges and it will not be easy to remount.

    Marni, our ground here is solid coral rock. To do any planting, the rock has to be removed with heavy equipment. I've experimented with mounting plants on the rock pieces that we've dug up. It works well, but ferns and other hitchhikers like the rock a little too much.
