I just discovered some of the most amazing Bulbophyllums on eBay. Has anyone grown the ones with the fat pseudobulbs? Are any of them suitable for windowsill or other indoor growing?
The same vendor has Porpax lanii. Fascinating!

Here is a link to a Bulbo which I have never seen before, even in books.

Hi Lore, I love that bulbo, but from what I have found so far it takes colder temps than I can provide. Naomi is an excellent vendor though and I am sure the plant is fabulous. She's an Ebay vendor you can trust...

MmeRose, Bulbophyllums are wonderful plants and many would probably thrive in your conditions and be very rewarding. Deciduous species, as the one in the link appears to be, can be trickier to grow. My personal opinion is if you haven't tried Bulbophyllums yet don't start with a deciduous species and certainly not one that costs $100. Frequently when a species is uncommon it is because it is easy to kill. There are many Bulbos out there with fat pseudobulbs that can be acquired for much less. Just my 2 cents worth :).

I wouldn't spend $100 on a plant that I know nothing about! I thought it was so cool, though. I'm going to contact Naomi for advice about Bulbophyllums that I can try at home. What an amazing species!

I personally like Bulb. lasiochilum, the dark form, Bulb. lepidum grows into a specimen plant in a limited space and sends inflorescences for several months, and Bulbophyllum blumei for the peculiar flowers although it has a pesky tendency to escape mounts and pots and grow in the air.

Bulbophyllum ambrosia (smells good) and Bulbophyllum pardalotum (flowers are only open from morning to early to mid afternoon, but bloom for about 10 days) are both easy, intermediate temperatures and small.

If you search the archives for Bulbophyllum you will find lots of threads that might give you some ideas.
