Just bought this cutie yesterday. I have a pretty good idea on how to grow it but any tips or suggestions would be appreciated....I know there are several Bulbo growers here.

I'm not particularly a Bulbo grower, but I am enjoying expanding my horizons. Thanks.

This bulbo is very easy to grow. For me it grows and flower regulary every summer. I have mine mounted on epiweb since it requires high humidity and heavy watering. It does not like to be in a stale and compact substrate. Be careful if you repot it, it does not like to get it's roots disturbed. Best time to do it is right befor the new growths sets roots, to reestablish quicker.
I grow mine warm. During summerdays 28 °C and during winterdays 22°C. Given 6-8 °C lower temperatures at nights. I give it a lot of light. It's placed close to the fan, given strong airmovment.
    Good luck
    Linda

Jesus, Mary Jane. If you're gonna be the poster girl for bulbophyllums you need to come up with something better than that.

My football team has been out of the running for a while. Most of the season, truth be known.
But just you wait til next year!!

Sorry Wendy, for the slight hijack. Dale started it, as usual.

You made a good choice with guttulatum, I hope you enjoy it!

Wendy, If you need to grow it in a pot because of your growing space, may I offer you the experience of pumice from Charlie's Greenhouse. It's nice in being organic, therefore, no rotting medium (I've been using it for 10 years). Water the Bulbs daily as they like it wet and keep the fan as they like air movement.

Pumice is a volcanic material that holds water because it has pore spaces. Being a rock it doesn't breakdown. Check out Charlie's on the internet.

I am experimenting with pumice. I have one Bulbo in it presently.

Your guttulatum is much different than mine in coloring. This species was the first one that started my Bulbo collecting, so beware, LOL.
The person I got mine from is now deceased. For the old timers, it was Jeff-in-Tampa, but that was before he moved to Tampa.

Mine is spotted with a purple spotted lip

I buy my pumice from a landscaping company. $30 for 1/2 full pick-up truck. Got to be way cheaper than Charlie's. When I was testing it out, I bought a product called Stall Dry (recommended by a bonsai grower) from the farm supply store in 25lb bags. It is used in horse stalls to soak up urine. Before that I bought it at local nurseries in 5 lb bags. Sources do vary, and some types work better than others. It is very lightweight and will float, but is heavier than perlite and a lot safer for the lungs. It is inert and neutral pH.

Bonsai growers and cactus & succulent growers use it too.
