Bonatea polypodantha

    This took me totally by surprise! It is a first bloom seedling of the South African terrestrial Bonatea polypodantha. I was given seed in 2019. Only a few survived some unfortunate circumstances in the greenhouse so I am really happy to see this for the first time.

    It looks so nice, really cool that the leaves are low and quite small while the flowers are raised up

    That is spectacular! Do you know if the two small spatulate projections near the lip have a function? They look almost glandular.

    Do you mean the two that look like tusks? I haven't tried pollinating it yet, but I think they are the receptors/female structure. There is a name for that, but I can't remember it right now. Habenarias have them too.
