Yes the Tallahassee Orchid Show opened today. I set up 2 displays, a 25 square foot and an 8 square foot niche. The small one only contained species and the larger display was a mixed bag. I did win the Trophy for Best Vandaceous with Nakomotoara Newberry Apricot.

Bought Bolopetlum Midnight Blue 'Cardinal's Roost', Onc. Pacific Sunrise, Restrepia striata, and with 3 spikes Bulb nymphopolitanum.

I'll have photos of the show tomorrow.

Did you get the graveolens judged?

Jon, it was a pisser. The AOS judge I worked with (they let me do ribbon judging and best ofs) loved it. It didn't even get pulled. Her husband even had an AM on it a few years ago. Think I'm getting to the point of putting in a display, entering nothing, and enjoying showing the general public the plants. Had my most fun on the potting table ( I'm the only one there) and talking with those who want to grow better, even if they are only phals, they are the future of orchids.

Oh forgot to say my better half won for best watercolor in the show of a Phrag she painted and gave me for my birthday. We are having a disagreement over who should get the trophy money.

Clark, if you want something judged at a show here in San Francisco you put it in for judging. I know that in some places and with some AOS judges they do look at the show before judging, but there is no reason to depend on them. Congratulations to your wife on the painting and I hope she slaps your hand about the money.;)

No slapping here, she has her money. I helped with ribbon judging on a team with an AOS judge who had the same species awarded several years back. She mentioned it twice, wanted to put the plant up judging, but someone shot her down.

MJ, if you have ever been involved in a show from Thursday setup through Sunday breakdown, you'll quickly learn it is work with a lot of camaraderie. Since the middle of my graveolens is missing it can no longer be considered a specimen plant. I hook up on a trade on half of it for a blooming size division of an awarded B. phaleonopsis.

MJ, I don't have the B. phal yet, I'm trading for it. Here are a couple of photos. I didn't get many because as you can see form the shot of my display some freelance a$$hole photoengraver Kept walking between my camera and what I was taking a picture of. The jerk did it twice, I'm taking a shot and he kneels down between my camera and the subject. I had to put the camera awy before I beat with it about his head and shoulders.

The orchid is Cleistoma birmanicum. It received an 83 point AM.

You should have said something to the jerk.

Now, is this your display or a group display?

No Jon, Prem was not at the show. He doesn't live here anymore.

I did say 'Excuse me, I really wasn't taking any photos here" and he just kept on taking photo in front of me. Yes that is my 25 square foot floor display and all the orchids came out of my greenhouse.
