wait a minute, MJ did you ship that box to Forrest. Is it the same one you said you were shipping here, but sent it to yourself twice?

Hey MJ....you could head North and come to the SEPOS show in 2 weeks at Longwood Gardens! Andy's, J&L, Ecuagenra, Piping Rock, Parkside, and many more great vendors will be there.

Besides the vendores they have a great show display and Longwood has an awesome grounds you can spend days wondring around in too!

Yeah Mary Jane. Come up to Sepos/Longwood. Linda and I will probably go on Saturday.

Bummer about Andy's. I was going to ask you to say hi for us. Are you sure they were scheduled? It's not on their website.

It was on the Atlanta Orchid Society website. Hell that was probably from last year. There were a few listed that weren't at the show.

I will have to pass on SEPOS but the Parkside gig could be doable.

That would be cool Who knows - maybe Linda and I will even go this year. We've missed the last couple.

Out of the 3 orchid shows I have attended this year, 2 have sucked royally. And these two shows have typically been fantastic. It sounds like your show suffered from the same condition this year.

It's in large part thanks to the economy - expensive travel and set up for the vendors, and the public isn't buying as much. I asked one of my local vendor friends why he didn't attend the Miami show this year. His answer: $7000 to set up before he makes the first dime. Add travel costs, especially international travel, and voila! no vendors.

I went to the Coral Gables OS show Friday, and talked with one of the vendors that is here in Florida - mid state - and was commenting how boring the show had gotten. Everybody selling the exact same mericloned crap. VERY few species, but lots of crappy Catt, Dend and Phal hybrids. (No Bulbos here either, MJ.) The guy told me that he had recently imported an order from Thailand and had his CITES and all necessary paperwork. Upon inspection of the shipment, the authorities deemed they were wild collected and gave the guy the option of sending them back or burning them. Sorry, but this doesn't make sense, especially if everything else was in order. Burn them?! How is this protecting the plants? He says the authorities are making it impossible to import anything, and everyone is forced to buy the same local stock (the same crap exported by Taiwan a few years back that has flooded the market.)

It's depressing to watch this happening to the orchid industry. I hope they can weather the storm...

MJ, I saw a bed fan yesterday in Brookstone for that. You place the fan at the foot of your bed and place the exhaust under the sheets.

I'm on the downslide of it, Clark, but I appreciate your interest. I'll be sure to remember that when my friend V starts her Road To Hell.
