Ascocentrum garayi 'Kai Gold'

    A miniature from Southeast Asia where it grows at elevations from sea level up to 1200 meters. I grow this bright, intermediate and bare root.

    Gorgeous flowers, Karma! I love this species. I should point out though that your plant is not Ascocentrum miniatum, it is in fact A. garyi. True A. miniatum has a few significant differences. The lip is recurved, the flowers are reddish-orange and more translucent, the leaves curve more and it blooms at a different time of year than A. garayi.

    Thanks! I love it too, like a ray of sunshine when it blooms. OK... I have read that the two species are commonly mislabelled but never reflected on weather mine was or not. Thanks a lot for clearing that up for me Jacob! :)

    Orchidkarma, it looks like you are "under lights grower". What is your light for this little guy? My Ascocentrum garyi is under metal halide but refusing to flower (perhaps too young).
