    I recently sprayed my collection with avid. I haven't seen any other bugs but I did find a few of these. Anyone know what they are? I think there causing damage to my orchids. If so what can I use to kill them? I got some Bayer 3 in 1 to spray after I did my avid regiment. Just incase the Avid didn't kill all types of insects. Thanks for your help.     Avid works on mites and thrips. You'll need something else for this guy.

    Desjardin's beetle (Cryptamorpha desjardinsi). They're harmless to orchids. They feed on molds and such. The larvae are carnivorous though, and feed on mites and other tiny creepy crawlies. If you want to get rid of them, Tempo SC supposedly works on them. As Marni mentioned, Avid won't do anything to them. Bayer 3-in-1 doesn't do anything either as far as I can tell, and neither does Talstar. Rubbing alcohol kills them, like just about everything else, but unless you feel like dunking all your plants in alcohol, that isn't very useful.
