My grandpa on my father's side passed.

That side of the family and I have been out of communication for a long time. It's a long story that I won't tell here, and I had to find out through an obituary. No funeral. No call.

He was a Marine on the first landing of the Guadalcanal Campaign. A Japanese grenade took most of the sight from his right eye. In 2003, diabetes took his leg.

This man taught me how to fish for everything, taught me how to drive a boat, shoot a gun, clean and smoke fish, eat raw oysters, and to have a good work ethic. I'm heartbroken.

Chris, I'm very sorry for your loss. It seems we all lose touch and then one day it's too late and we wished we had not. But, you were very lucky to have known him. I never knew either of mine and only one grandmother. Here's to grandpa!

I shall symbollically raise a glass of the sweetest Ang nectar in his honor.

And I shall symbollically kick one of Clark's ugly hybrids in the ballz, in *your* honor.

Condolences on gramps, sounds like he did a lot of living.

I'm sorry to hear about this. You have some great memories of him that will stay with you all of your life. That in itself is a treasure not everyone has.

You know what Chris, he did his job and he did it well. He took knowledge and passed it down to you, and in his honor you should do the same. Consider yourself very fortunate, I only wish I was able to spend time like that with my grandfathers.

I raise my plastic bottle of oj to a fine soldier, man, and grandpa

I was very close to my maternal Grandfather growing up - Gawd he could tell a story:) He's been gone for over 10 years and I still miss him every day.

You were very lucky to know a Grandfather, heck, a person, like that at all.
It sounds like the two of you had good times. Remember those!
