    I like that. Everything about that has an air of elongation.

    Beautiful. The plant sure is gigantic. Is maculosum the same as 'multiflorum'??

    No, two different species wonderlen. Flowers are very similar but spike and plant growth very different.
    My multiforum is a short time away from opening, I will post pics of the flowers and plant for you.

    Sorry. but this is not A. maculosa. It looks like (multiflora var. godefroyae x rosea). Aerides maculosa is a small plant like an Ascocentrum with a different lip.

    Thanks for the info botanist. Its one of the few species I have that I haven't researched as I bought the plant years ago from a specialist species grower. I'll have to ask him a few questions. The possible parents you mention are in flower here now.

    Just checked, the cross as suggested would be Aer. Hybridum

    I know maculosa from the wild in India but I haven't seen it in cultivation. Pity, as it would be great for hybridization. But nobody exports from southern India. If you go to the Swiss Orchid Foundation website there are good illustrations (the easy way is to go to SITF on the AOS website and use their link - then search in the tiny box in the upper right corner).

    Interesting situation has occured. This plant was queried in another forum for the same reasons a yours. I'm waiting on the member to forward some pics. I did some research and found the maculosa you describe but also a different one. Both different to each other & mine. The publications by Hawkes and Sanders plus some articles in the Orchid Digest have descriptions that fit my plant. I have this plant with Aer. rosea growing along side it. The differences between them is plant size ( maculosa ?) because of its age, much bigger & stronger in growth whereas the rosea is petite in comparison but identical in everyway. The flower spike is shorter also but I put hat down to plant maturity. The flowers I really can't tell apart.
