    I have been ordering some new plants (little by little). However, tomorrow this will change as I will be ordering 16 more plants from 6 different Thai sellers located in different Thai provinces. I am waiting for 4 plants to arrive today. Anyway, when I first moved to Khon Kaen I brought only 17 plants with me. After I place the orders tomorrow, this will bring my total number of plants up to 68 (still a modest number compared to others). But I am happy and my plants also seem very happy.

    Aerides houlettiana is a species native to Thailand (and other countries) and it grows wild in different areas of Thailand. I am very fortunate to be in Thailand to be able to obtain wild species that the sellers have for sale. This plant arrived with one set of blooms and another set having buds.

    Aerides houlletiana is my favorite of the genus. Happily, I have several in spike now.

    Thanks Marni. Do you know the actual count of how many orchid plants you have? I am just curious.

    I would be curious too, but it is too many to count. Before I had trouble the last few years, a friend estimated 8000. It is less than that now, but still in the thousands.

    To me it was always about growing orchids well while I have been trying to keep the number of plants to a minimum. Because I don’t have much space, I try to keep the number of plants in the low hundreds. But the reason for keeping the number low is also because I want to grow my plants well. So after growing orchids for 23 years at my current location, my collection is still comprised of less than 200 plants.
