There isn't much to shoot in Sarasota, my hometown, but I just got this lens, and wanted to play around with it. So far it is incredible. I'm a huge fan of prime lenses, since that's what I learned on. The color and sharpness blow me away, especially after having been stuck with the garbage kit lens for nearly a year. I was unable to take a single photo I was satisfied with using that lens.

I spent much of my childhood on the dock or the beach in front of that bait shop.

Nice photos, Chris. A restaurant and a bait shop in the same establishment would make me nervule.

Chris, nice pictures. I would just run on down to Selby and take tons. I'm a camera idiot so here's a dumb question. What is a prime lens?

In film and photography, a prime lens is either a photographic lens whose focal length is fixed, as opposed to a zoom lens, or it is the primary lens in a combination lens system.

Confusion can sometimes result due to the two meanings of the term if the context does not make the interpretation clear. Alternative terms primary and fixed focal length or FFL are sometimes used to avoid ambiguity

So says Wikepedia. I had no idea either.

Don't know what camera you have, but the Nikon 50 f/1.8 is probably the sharpest lens they make, and its pretty damn cheap.

I have the Sigma 30mm f/1.4, and its my favorite lens. Garbage for orchids, but great for indoor/low light pictures.
