Marni: I don't know if I'm ready to deal with plants right out of the flask. Is it very difficult/any special considerations? How many years to bloom? I'm a senior citizen. God I crack myself up.

Lycastes are not easy to get out of flask. I'd say 3 to 5 years to bloom. I too am a senior citizen and still making crosses.

Marni: You seem to be the go to gal for Lycaste Skinneri Alba. Do you have any of these plants for sale?
I'm losing my mind trying to find it. My wife's from Guatemala and I'll be there 6/21/17 but I'm told you can't buy them. It's illegal as it's the national flower. No wonder my brother in law gave me "alba" cuff links. lol

I only sell plants on ebay, but I do sell flasks and I have skinneri alba in flask. Not sure if I have any that are ready to come out of flask, but if you would be interested, I could check.

I don't think it isn't illegal to buy them, it is probably illegal take it out of the country.

The bulbs are not mushy but not firm. They are rather soft and more yellowish.
Would you cut it off? I have only one green bulb left.
The new growth has had all melted down.

Bulbo.elisae(pinapple shaped bulbs) has lost all leaves and there is only one bulb look healthy and green (all others are yellow and not firm). Shall I cut off the healthy ONE off from the lest of them?

That is a difficult question. If the back bulbs are soft and mushy I would cut them off. If they feel dry and perhaps hollow I would leave them alone. If it survives, try giving it a somewhat drier colder winter and a warm wet summer.

      Marni,Hi !
A favor to ask of you; A friend from Greece is visiting the west coast (on business), and asked me if I know any worthwhile orchid/botanical gardens/retail places to visit. He'll be in SanDiego,S.F.,L.A..
I've never been to the west coast,so I don't know any places other than the S.Diego zoo!
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Julie, you can send me an email through the website if you want. I am not as far behind on things as I was when I posted that note.

Dear Marni ! I have a great wish : could you tell me the exact conditions of growing Maxillaria platypetala, please !
Peruflora is coming to EU and I would like to order it.
My problem with M. sanderiana was, that I watered it in wrong way ( or I did something else wrong ), I killed it after 1year! Very sad ! Now would not like to repeat it !
Thank you in advance ! Best regards
      Andreja (Slovenija)
